The doors were sound but the orange oak look no longer matched the new floor and cabinetry. Replacing doors and frames means broken plaster, painting and new doors at full price. Film is the other route.
The door leaves came off, were cleaned and primed. Pale wood-grain film was heated and laid over the leaves and frames — the glazed door included — with the edges wrapped under so there are no visible joints. Black handles finished the job.
The edge work is what decides the lifespan: prepared right and wrapped under the edges, film sits on a door for years. The whole project is on the work page.
